A small landlocked country in Eastern Africa, painted with a history of hardships and stunning landscapes, Rwanda offers visitors the once in a lifetime experience to witness an endangered species clinging to its natural habitat – the majestic Silverback Gorilla. Consider starting or ending your safari with three or four days in Rwanda where you will rise early to trek the more than 8,000-foot elevation, ascending through the thick jungle and misty ridges of Volcanoes National Park, in search of one of the few remaining families of mountain gorillas. Spending an hour with these gentle giants is an experience like no other and one that Rwanda has struggled to maintain in the face of rampant poaching that has diminished the population to less than 1,000 mountain gorillas remaining today.
For those with more than a couple days to spare, consider extending your stay in the beautiful Virunga Mountains to track the elusive and similarly endangered golden monkeys or head to Nyungwe Forest National Park to trek the chimpanzee, owl-faced and colobus monkey along fearlessly suspended walkways. Lodging in these areas is extraordinary, embracing full luxury and unique designs that blend into the marvelous terrain that surrounds them. Travel with confidence to Rwanda, knowing that your treks will directly aid the conservation efforts required to keep these remarkable populations of primates alive.

Helpful Information

Seasons

Due to its proximity to the equator, Rwanda’s climate is fairly consistent throughout the year with only mild rainy seasons. For the ideal, drier months, consider traveling between June and September, months that would align nicely with a combined Eastern Africa safari to Kenya or Tanzania. However, do keep in mind that permits for gorilla treks are extremely limited and must be purchased far in advance – we suggest purchasing these permits and planning your travels at least a year prior!

Budget Planning

Typically for the type of Custom Itineraries we build, prices in Rwanda can run from $1100-2500  + USD per person per day, (not including Gorilla permits which as of March 2020 run $1500 per person per day) The range is primarily dependent upon the number of gorilla trekking permits you wish to include, chimpanzee permits, and lodging style. Quoted Tour prices include camps and lodges, required regional flights, guides, excursions, park entrance and conservation fees, equipment rental, ground transfers, all meals, all beverages including local alcoholic beverages.
Tour proposals exclude international flights, travel insurance, and gratuities. Each proposal will detail all inclusions and exclusions for clarity.
