On the southeast coast of the Persian Peninsula, Dubai bursts through the monochromatic desert landscape, glistening with hundreds of skyscrapers, elaborate man-made islands, streets filled with exotic cars and a futuristic infrastructure. Formerly a small fishing port, the city evolved with the discovery of oil in the Middle East and, over the span of a generation, diversified its portfolio into real estate, finance, trade and tourism to become one of the most visited cities in the world. Dripping with seemingly endless wealth, Dubai strives to construct the biggest and best of everything; from 7-star hotels, the tallest skyscraper in the world, man-made archipelagos, one shaped shaped like a palm tree and another a world map, to a ski slope within a mall, the city has become an amusement park of opulence.
The modern city is bizarrely juxtaposed with its past and the age-old traditions of the Emirate people; you will hear the call to prayer regularly and must keep in mind laws of modesty and drinking in public as you explore a city offering every indulgence one could desire. A city unfazed by its arid climate, it offers malls with astounding aquariums and indoor ski slopes, lush golf courses, the largest flower garden, the most luxurious hotels, the tallest building, (The Burj Khalifa), pristine beaches of Jumeirah, camel rides in the desert, formula one race car driving and helicopter tours.
With a city that seeks to astound its visitors and ongoing development plans stretching into 2070, this city of cranes and otherworldly opulence will surely remain at the forefront of modern advancements and draw travelers for decades to come.
