The Maldives is a tropical nation in the Indian Ocean composed of 26 ring-shaped atolls, which are made up of more than 1,000 coral islands. It’s known for its beaches, blue lagoons and extensive reefs. The capital, Malé, has a busy fish market, restaurants and shops on the main road, Majeedhee Magu, and 17th-century Hukuru Miskiy (also known as Friday Mosque) made of carved white coral. The customs and social behavior of the Maldivians have been greatly influenced by the Indians, Sri Lankans, Arabs and North Africans who visited the Maldives while traversing the trade routes of the central Indian Ocean. The Maldivian culture is rich and vibrant due to the infusion of these cultures.
With picture-perfect overwater bungalows, these islands are a dream destination to relax for a week or two – sunbathing by your private plunge pool, snorkeling with dolphins, sharks, and manta rays, scuba diving along a pristine coral reef, indulging in a massage at an underwater spa or enjoying a Maldavian feast while listening to the traditional Bodu Beru soul music of the Maldives.
