Meet the conservationists from Save the Elephants, Kenya, who have committed their lives to sustain the beauty and ecological integrity of the places elephants live, and to develop a tolerant relationship between humans and elephants.
Our favorite conservation organization, Mission Wildlife, headed by Latitude Expeditions brand ambassador, Julie Scardina, is hosting an incredible evening with Save the Elephants. Watch the San Diego premier screening of the breathtaking film, "A Life Among Elephants" at the iconic San Diego Natural History Museum 5:30-8:30 Friday May 9, 2025 (tickets still available at below link). There is an optional VIP meet and greet following the film with Save the Elephants’ team and its founder’s daughter, Saba, featured in the film, who grew up among the elephants.
If you are unable to attend, please consider supporting both Mission Wildlife and Save the Elephants worthy causes – see the following links:

Linda and I, with Julie, spent a day in the wilds of Kenya with Save the Elephants’ (STE) Director of Field Operations David Daballen and approximately 135 elephants comprising 2 extended families of over 1000 elephants that reside in Samburu National Reserve. It was an incredible experience learning from David their behaviors, family dynamics, and even individual habits within the massive group. David knew each one on sight and by name given to them by the research team. As an aspiring wildlife photographer, I was able to capture many special images of these majestic creatures. We proudly have included many pictures from that day on our website, in published itineraries and art on our walls.
More about the Film from its Producers:
Now, Iain’s extraordinary life and relentless fight for elephants take center stage in an emotional and inspiring documentary. With unprecedented access, newly unearthed archive footage, and powerful interviews — including contributions from Jane Goodall and Iain’s daughters, Saba and Dudu Douglas-Hamilton — the film retraces Iain’s action-packed journey.

Directed by Nigel Pope, with Jackie Savery and Justin Purefoy as executive producers, and an evocative score by Glasgow-based composer Fraser Purdie, the film is proudly supported by Save the Elephants.
A Life Among Elephants has been named the winner of this year’s Flo Stone & Roger D. Stone Award for Artistry in Filmmaking by the DC Environmental Film Festival. The film will have a US theatrical premiere as part of the March 2025 DC Environmental Film Festival on Saturday, March 22, at the AFI Silver Theatre and Cultural Center in Silver Spring, Maryland.
Screenings continue across the US in 2025. The film will also be screened on World Elephant Day (August 12) at Scotland’s Edinburgh Fringe Festival.
