TASTE OF COLOMBIA

Daily Summary

Bogota is fast becoming "South America’s Next Capital of Cool" as dubbed by Forbes magazine, and with its top restaurants, trendy bars and designer boutiques it’s clear to see why. Bogota’s range of high-end hotels will ensure a comfortable retreat after exploring the city by day, or partying by night.
Cartagena is a combination of a historic walled city and modern Miami Beach, with access to the Rosario Islands where you can cruise the archipelago of 30 islands, swim, snorkel and soak up the sun white sand beaches. A stay in the Old City in a small luxury boutique hotel converted from an old mansion is a must do.

Day 1:
Arrive Bogota

Welcome Dinner

Dinner at Plaza de Andres. Enjoy the weird and wonderful decor, excellent local food, and lively atmosphere with dinner, dancing and music among the locals.

Day 2:
Bogota

Day Tour of Neighborhoods and Markets

Walk through the winding streets of La Candelaria and surrounding neighborhoods with your local guide, who will offer fascinating stories behind the cobblestone streets, houses, plazas and cathedrals of this neighborhood. Passing by government buildings, the iconic Plaza Bolivar, and city center's impactful street art, get insight into Colombia’s difficult past and the recent political and economic revival as told through the stories of the murals.

Day 3:
Flight to Cartagena

Afternoon and Evening Tours; Rum Tasting and Salsa

Wander the winding streets of Cartagena’s colorful historic center while stopping at the best boutiques in town in search of local artisanal goods, from clothing to accessories to homeware. You will be accompanied by a local historian who will recount the fascinating stories behind the iconic plazas and colorful houses that characterize this UNESCO heritage site. Learn about Cartagena's festive culture and taste the exotic fruits and traditional snacks found along the way.

After a short break to get ready for the evening activities, meet your private guide in  the hotel lobby for a  unique evening of Rum Tasting followed, of course, by  Salsa Dancing.  During the tasting experience an expert will guide you through how different rums are processed and aged, teaching you to recognize each rum's unique characteristics. Sample the different rums with some Colombian chocolate for ultimate indulgence!
After, upon being adequately lubricated, put your moves to the test and learn some of the different dance moves that characterize Colombian Salsa. Prepare yourself to include Cumbia and Champeta in your repertory.

Day 4:
Cartagena

Visit a Local Village School; Colombian Cooking Class

Drive 20 minutes to the fishing village of La Boquilla, where you will be visiting a school, part of the non profit Foundation: "Pescador de Letras." The school admits children from all backgrounds, between the ages of 3 and 12 giving them the opportunity to study, undertake workshops, and attend remedial tutorials and English classes. They also focus on children’s rights, working to combat domestic violence and promoting a harmonious environment within the community. Your generosity and kindness will have a positive, sustainable impact, changing the lives of children and an entire community.

Late afternoon visit one of the top chefs in Colombia  who will teach you how to make some of Cartagena’s most typical dishes such as ceviche, seafood soup in coconut milk and white wine, coconut rice, plantain chips, and a few other Colombian specialties.
The menu can be designed based on your preferences. Enjoy your dinner and drinks  upon completion of this highly entertaining and interactive class.

Day 5:
Cartagena

Private Charter Islas del Rosario; Return to Cartagena

Meet your driver and local host at the hotel for a private transfer to Cartagena’s dock where your boat will be waiting. The 38-foot speedboat will depart towards the Islas del Rosario archipelago, located 50-minutes from Cartagena. These rugged islands are blessed with clear blue waters, colorful coral reefs, and diverse marine life. Spend the day cruising between islands, beach combing, relaxing and snorkeling at your leisure. You will be accompanied by an English-speaking host who will look after you for the day. Upon confirmation we will confirm your selections from a Snacks and Drinks menu for wines, beers, liquors, and food.
